If you perform breast augmentation surgery, you’ve probably heard from your patients that bra options are scarce. Plastic surgeon Brian J. Eichenberg, M.D., did and decided to do something about it.
Dr. Eichenberg, who practices in Murrieta, Calif., teamed up with fashion designer Ankur Chakraborty to create The Breast Whisperer, a bra designed to be worn day and night by both breast augmentation patients and naturally large-breasted women.
The bra says it delivers not only on comfort but also aesthetics, according to the company.
The Breast Whisperer was designed to provide support and prevent chest skin wrinkles that can occur while sleeping. The wireless bra is meant to be worn during sleep, but it can also be worn comfortably during the day, too, according to TheBreastWhisperer.com.
“There are scientific studies showing that always sleeping on the same side of the face gives you more wrinkles on that side. The skin in the décolletage area would be the same,” Dr. Eichenberg writes in an email to The Aesthetic Channel. “There are surprisingly few studies on breasts [and] nipples getting lower as we get older, but pretty much any woman over 50 or woman that has had children can tell you that gravity keeps pulling on them, and that the bigger they are the more of a problem it is.”
Dr. Eichenberg writes that one could leaf through National Geographic to get a good idea of how most breasts look when women never wear a bra. He says he thinks not wearing a bra overnight also contributes to the cosmetic drooping.
Plastic surgeons, who do breast augmentation surgery, can get in on the business of marketing these bras and generate income, just like they would selling skin care products, according to Dr. Eichenberg.
“Plastic surgery offices have a unique opportunity to buy these wholesale and explain to their patients why they should be wearing them,” according to Dr. Eichenberg. “It’s so comfortable that you can sleep in it every night, which is one of the biggest things keeping women from wearing [bras] at night currently.”
Some of the proceeds, he writes, go towards breast cancer research and helping survivors. The Breast Whisperer retails for $39.99.
